Many people see our world living in sin. As soon as Eve ate the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, sin entered into the world. (Genesis 3:1-7) Sin breaks us. We are a broken people. Our hearts are broken by sin. We are not even sad about it!
We gave up the truth of God to worship His creation in place of Him, our Creator. What do we worship? Things of the world. Power or prestige? Money or fame? Sex or popularity? There are many things we can worship that is not of God. Those who do also forget about God.
In my struggle with deafness I became an overachiever. Others may struggle and give up, but I worked hard for my success. I tried to be the best at everything I did, and better than those with hearing. I was proud of myself as a modern “Renaissance man”. A person with many talents and skills. There were few activities off-limits to my deafness. Singing was one of them. But I taught myself to play the piano. It had a keyboard and music sheets. I did not have to hear well to play the piano. Just learn how to read music and put my fingers on the right keys. I played classical music. Why? No words. I had many interests which my deafness let me do. The more things I learned, the less I thought about God. I was doing pretty good on my own, no thank you. Little did I know I was broken in my “heart” as well as my ears. If I did not change my life, I was going to Hell, the second death.
