Becoming a believer. Knowing Jesus as Lord. Living life for God. These are all parts of my new life as a deaf Christian. The desire to serve God continues to this day in my life. Becoming active in a local church is one part of my new life. When we moved to Florida, my wife and I looked for a Deaf Church. My wife is now deafened like some others in her family. A hereditary condition. Being late Deaf means she needed to learn Sign Language. So did I also learn Sign Language to communicate with my wife.
Churches do not offer closed captions in services or classes. But, a few have ASL (American Sign Language) interpreters for the Deaf. We found a church with a Deaf Ministry and interpreter. It was the only way for us to continue to walk in our Lord Jesus. Having a church life and family is important. It helps us to keep learning about God and His Son Jesus. We relate to others who were also afflicted with Deafness. We help one another. Someday we will have new and perfect bodies in Heaven. On Earth we need to be strong in faith and accept our Deafness. Let it not define us, but use it for God’s Glory. From here forward we serve Him in all ways possible.
